What you need to know…

In our unit on Crime and Violence you need to be able to answer two key questions:

  • What are the effects of short-term exposure to violence?
  • What are the effects of long-term exposure to violence?

Remember you need research (theories and/or studies) to support your answers. You should be able to answer this mostly with what you have learned already.

How well the class can answer these questions will determine how long we need to spend learning about new research to be able to answer them, so if you don’t want more work it’s important you do this well!

Research into effects of child abuse is highly relevant to this topic, so if you did not learn anything about this from the Whitman project, you may want to either do your own research or go find someone who did research about child abuse and ask them to explain their findings (and/or provide you with notes).

What you need to do…

Write notes that address the two key questions and show me when you’re finished.

  • What are the effects of short-term exposure to violence?
  • What are the effects of long-term exposure to violence?

Remember to use effective note taking strategies.

Write notes only, NOT full answers!

Remember you need research (theories and/or studies) to support your answers. You should be able to answer this mostly with what you have learned already from your research about Charles Whitman, as well as Social Learning Theory and the Bobo Doll experiment.
