The Question:

How can group dynamics influence individual behaviour (e.g. bystanderism, conformity, stereotypes)?

Tips for doing well:

SELECT AND APPLY

The biggest weakness in all but one research project for the unit on crime and violence was the lack of selective application. While origins of crime and violence are important to effectively explain possible solutions, there’s no need to write two pages explaining social learning theory to me. A few, or even one or two sentences would be enough – then synthesize that information into how it could be used to reduce violence (e.g. with the Sabido method).

In this project, I am telling you now, I don’t want to read a page description of Asch’s methodology (if you decide to use Asch).

I would much prefer to read a page of critical analysis of the experiment and an application of the findings to explain how it shows how group dynamics influences individual behaviour.

I WANT TO READ CRITICAL THINKING!

Just like an examiner, I want to read more about your critical applications of research than summaries of the research. For the most part, honestly speaking, I skip and skim over descriptions of studies (because I know them!) You only need to provide enough description that is necessary to make your point, and your point should be answering the question. Seriously, can’t stress this enough – answer the question.

ANALYSE THE QUESTION, and then ANSWER THE QUESTION

It’s important you understand what the question is asking you to do, so you must spend some time analysing the question. If you do not understand the question or how to answer, please ask me!
